What is portrait photography?
Portrait photography or portraiture in photography is a photograph of a person or group of people that captures the personality of the subject by using effective lighting, backdrops, and poses. Environmental Environmental Portrait refers to an image where the subject is photographed in person’s natural environment. For example, a worker photographed at the construction zone, teacher in the classroom, sculptor in a sculpture studio and so on. Surroundings are used to compliment the subject and to emphasize his character. Candid A candid portrait is taken without a subject expecting or acknowledging the photographer. As opposed to an environmental portrait this image is captured at the moment rather than set up. Lifestyle The term Lifestyle Portrait refers to portraits where emphasis is given to suggest the “style of living” of the individuals depicted. Technically it is a combination of environmental portrait and candid portrait. More weight is given to communicate the feeling of life experience of the subject |

I really like this image because it is almost rule of thirds parallel and the child is in two hotspots.
The picture has a large depth of field and is in perfect focus. The meaning of this picture is children in some countries always have to work and their life becomes miserable we can see this by the brightness and contrast the brightness is turned down and the contrast has been turned up. the clouds in the sky make this image look really powerful because it brings the emotion to the picture as you cant see the face or the eyes which normally bring the emotion. |
This meaning is similar to the other on how some people have to suffer and live in poverty and they have to hunt for food and are unable to live in a proper home. this image is under exposed and the contrast is turned up slightly in this image.
I feel like this image would so much better and powerful if it was cropped down a bit. |

Angus McBean
Began his career in the theatre as mask-maker and scenery designer before turning to full-time theatre photography. McBean is renowned for his theatrical and inventive photography of the 1930s and 1940s. Imitated throughout his career, his influence especially in advertising is still prominent today. In 1935 he opened his own studio; and his prominent style was soon being published in glossy magazines. The Surrealist Exhibition in 1936 was an influence on McBean's theatrical portraits. After the Second World War he opened a larger studio in Covent Garden, and in the 1940s and 1950s was inundated with commissions from theatre companies. In the 1960s McBean photographed the Beatles for their first album.

This image is similar to the other but has a lot better focus. you can also see into his eyes and the emotion on his face, he looks angry or concerned.
This image has a unique contrast and brightness because you can see the shadows on his face a lot more than on any other photo. You can see his eyebrows are raised and this also bring the emotion to the photo. |

My Worst
My Best
This is my best Image I really like this because they are both portraying the same emotion. They are both mimicking each other as they are both looking down and have their hands in their hair. They seem stressed or worried.

My Best
This image is my best because the contrast is really effective I used a phone torch to show the highlights of his face and I used a grey/off white background but between them are the shadows of his face and his dark hair. the emotion this portrays is concentrated, I was unable to use the hands in this shoot because Lewis was sat on a tall chair and had no surface around us to lean on. if we did use hands it wouldn't be with this back ground and it wouldn't be as effective.

My Best
This is my best, I like it because it looks scary. You can really see Lewis' eyes as he has opened them wide and looked straight into the camera. in this image I have used the rule of odd and even because you can see his light skin on the dark background. I think this image is really effective because his eyes look sunken and the red in his corner of his eye is bright bringing out more colour in the picture.

Personal Project
For this project I have chose my theme as relationships because I feel like I can do so much with it. I am go to my caravan in wales where I have loads of friends I am always with everyday, I have a family that I have been close with for around years and I can use my friend Alex to do an romantic one with my sister (they will just be acting). and I can take some with my family also. I might use a tripod in some of these shoot maybe like the romantic one because I feel it might be awkward between my sister and my friends brother but it won.t with me and him because he is my best friend
Because it is autumn I can use all the colours in the sky to make the photo pop. the style that I use will be environmental and lifestyle because it will fit my theme more.

Shoot 4 - Friends Shoot
this shoot will be the first and it will be friends, I maybe wan them to be playing in the leaves together or playing football or maybe just sitting in a group together but it wont look stages or awkward because these are things that me and my friends do most of the time, we all have a real bond which helps when it comes to not being awkward. i might use a tripod to take some of these pictures.

My Best
This is my best image because it has a medium depth of field and a good composition. the exposure of the image is right and the focus is not really blurry. I decides to make a small sudden move on my camera to represent movement in the children as they play together.

Photo Analysis
I like this picture because it is black and white but their is still a pop of colour and I also like the fact that the woman is staring into nothing. I feel a sense of love in this photo because of the warm tones of the pinky reddish colour. The composition is quite standard as they are stood together in front of the camera. the shutter speed is fast as we cannot see any movement there is a large depth of field as you can see everything in the back ground.

Practice edits
These are some different edits that i done with online pictures. In the first image i just cut out Marilyn Monroe's face into a city background. The second i done a double exposure shoot which is kind of inspired by the edit analysis i done but i was not able to convey the picture. And in the last one and i cut out the face and body of Ariel and them i duplicated the background of the image multiple times to got the moving effect.

Plan
I will take a picture of someone and then distort the background image to make it look almost like a mixed up puzzle. then i willl cut out the face of a picture of somebody then overlay it over the top.
